Church Covenant

Having been born again by the grace of God through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and being justified on the ground of His shed blood, and having confessed our faith before men, we do now in the presence of God and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another, as one body in Christ.

We also engage, therefore, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love; to strive for the advancement of this church in knowledge, holiness and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrines; to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the Gospel through all the nations.

We also engage to maintain family and secret devotions; to educate our children in the Word of His Grace; and to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances.

We engage, too, by the grace and Power of God, that as strangers and pilgrims we will abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul; that we will put away from us all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil speaking, and be kind one to another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven us.

We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember each other in prayer; and to aid each other in sickness and distress.

We, moreover, engage that, should we remove from this place we will, as soon as possible, unite with another church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s Word.
